Medical Grade Chemical peels are a cosmetic treatment designed to vastly improve the tone and texture of your skin and reduce imperfections. A chemical peel can treat many different skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and mild scarring

Chemical Peels Benefits:

  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce acne and acne scars
  • Treat uneven skin pigmentation
  • Treat sun-damaged skin
  • Individualized to your exact skincare needs

Chemical peels involve using a powerful acid solution to remove the damaged outermost layers of your skin. By doing so, peels can treat cosmetic imperfections and reveal a brand new, undamaged layer of skin. While chemical peels are typically performed on the face, they can also rejuvenate the neck, hands and chest.

The skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils, and the eyes and hair are protected. One or more chemical solutions such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, lactic acid, or phenol are used. Your medical esthetician will suggest the proper peeling agent based upon the type of skin damage present and desired results.

During a chemical peel, the solution is gently applied to the skin. The application produces separation and eventually peels off layers of skin (sometimes visible, but many times invisible or “micro” peeling), enabling rejuvenated skin to appear.

During the procedure, most patients experience a warm to hot sensation that may last about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. A deeper peel may be more painful and require medication during or after the procedure

Am I A GOOD CANDIDATE for A Chemical Peel?

At Prima Med Spa, we’re committed to personalized care, and we only administer treatment if it’s truly in the client’s best interest. Some chemical peels are more effective on lighter skin tones, while others produce a dramatic improvement in texture and tone on darker skinned patients. If you have facial skin problems, having a medical grade peel can take years off your appearance, leaving you with smoother, brighter, fresher skin, even in tone and texture, and freed from many of the unpleasant signs of aging.

CHEMICAL PEEL Options at Prima Med Spa

Lactic Peel

Using alpha hydroxy acids derived from milk, this is a very mild peel with little to no recovery time. Because lactic acid is a natural human metabolite, there is less chance of an allergic reaction with this type of peel. Lactic acid peels help remove germs, dead cells, and toxins from the skin. Lactic acid peels are best for people who have very sensitive skin that might not be able to tolerate the slightly more intense glycolic acid peels. Although lactic acid peels are gentler, they usually provide many of the same benefits as the other peels, simply in a less intense way.

Glycolic Peels

Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane. These peels may be performed at various concentrations, which in turn varies the strength of the peel. Their main function is to remove the top layer of skin, promoting renewal of skin cells and a healthy cell turn over which leaves your skin fresh and smooth.

Salicylic Peel

Salicylic chemical peels are primarily used to help control oily and breakout prone skins.  Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid, which is an oil-soluble solution derived from will bark, birch bark and wintergreen leaves. This chemical peel helps acne and oily-prone skin by helping dissolve the bacteria.

Salicylic acid peels also help to dissolve black and white heads and to promote shedding of the outer layer of the skin. These peels are very popular amongst mature patients looking for exfoliation level that is deeper than the one typically achieved with microdermabrasions or glycolic peels.  Salicylic chemical peels are able to exfoliate the deeper layers of the skin, which helps improve pigmentation, wrinkles, and fine lines due to it’s cutaneous shedding.

Both glycolic and salicylic peels are safe for all skin types when performed by a qualified professional.

C-Infusion peel

The best all-around peel available for hypersensitive, aging, brightens and breakout-prone skin. Benefit C-infusion Peel delivers vital nutrients deep within the skin’s layers to gently stimulate collagen production without excessive peeling. Highly concentrated with vitamin C, this potent antioxidant peel is even gentle enough for rosacea sufferers.

A micropeel is a combination of both a medical microdermabrasion and a physician strength chemical peel. Micropeels are ideal because they blend together the benefits of both the medical microdermabrasion and physician strength chemical peel into one comfortable treatment. A micropeel allows for deeper penetration of the physician strength chemical peel and provides faster, more significant results than a medical microdermabrasion or physician strength chemical peel performed alone. While results can be seen immediately, a series of treatments along with maintenance treatments are recommended for best results.

Pumpkin Enzymatic Micropeel

The pumpkin peel treatment has simultaneous actions; it exfoliates and draws impurities out of the skin while introducing vitamins, enzymes and nutrients into the skin. This is an excellent treatment for smokers as it stimulates circulation, promotes healing, and provides vitamin nutrition. This treatment is also great for smoothing the skin, as the naturally occurring salicylic acid in pumpkin removes the dead surface cells that cause rough texture. The skin will have a healthy glow following this treatment.

More than 60 years ago, Christine Schrammek provided the foundation for the original GREEN PEEL® Herbal Peeling Treatment which helps people with various skin problems to get a clean and even skin. The basis is a mixture of eight selected herbs containing enzymes, minerals and vitamins, which are massaged into the skin. The Herbal Peeling Treatment was further medically developed and extended by her daughter, the dermatologist Dr. med. Christine Schrammek-Drusio, and is applied today by aestheticians and doctors worldwide. Varying amounts of the herbal plant mixtures allows the GREEN PEEL® Herbal Peeling Treatment to be adapted to individual skin conditions and the personal treatment goals.

A professional chemical peel with polyhydroxyl acids (lactobionic acid and gluconolactone) lactic acid, mandelic acid, hyaluronic acid, sodium lactate and many different peptides (DNA protection, skin sagging and wrinkles reduction).

This professional treatment combines different acids with a high concentration of hyaluronic acid and peptides. This kind of treatment facilitates renewal of cells of dermis and epidermis, makes deep wrinkles less visible and removes fine lines. It also provides a good lifting effect and moisturizes skin. It is suitable for any skin type with signs of aging, particularly for dry skin. Peptide active peel resurfacing is one of the best solutions for mature skin.

Peptides are molecular compounds, both found in nature and synthesized, that consist of amino acid monomers, which are linked by peptide (amide) bonds. Instead of amino group, they can contain, for instance, the carboxyl group. Nowadays, more than 1500 peptides are known. Scientists have studied their properties and learned how to synthesize them.

There are peptides in all living cells; they are active participants in all processes of a living organism. Both hormones and enzymes contain peptides. Peptides take part in regenerative processes and digestion; influence the immune, nervous, and vascular systems, and provide a pain alleviating effect. Some peptides can produce multiple results simultaneously. It is possible to synthesize peptides with properties, and thus, to create pharmaceuticals and cosmetics products that effectively address problems in medicine and aesthetics. Peptides in the peel solution are aimed directly at achieving results; at the same time, they have no side effects such as skin flaking, hyperpigmentation, and irritation

Side Effects

Side effects are minimal and may include temporary redness or flakiness of the skin. Vigorous exercise should be avoided immediately after treatment otherwise most other activates can be resumed immediately. Medical grade sunblock should always be part of a skin care regimen and applied and reapplied daily and immediately after a skin treatment.

  • Two weeks prior to your peel of choice you will need to start preparing your skin:
  • For all peels – Cleanse once a day with a specialised cleanser recommend by your dermal aesthetician.
  • For Ageless Peel– Cleanse once a day with a specialised cleanser. The use of specialised pre-peel products recommend by your dermal aesthetician is essential in order to prepare your skin for the treatment, reduce side effects and provide the best possible results.
  • This skin care regime will build up your skin’s strength to obtain the treatment, help the skin peel more evenly and speed up the healing process after your peel.
  • It is also essential to protect your skin from sun exposure and use an SPF30+ sunscreen every day.

  • Your peel, the skin will be tender and will need gentle care.
  • Don’t Pick. The most important thing to remember after a chemical peel is to steer clear of picking, scrubbing or peeling the skin away yourself. Removing the skin prematurely can lead to complications such as hyper-pigmentation. To gently remove dead skin the use of Skinstut’s Enzymatic Micro Peel is recommended a few days after the peel is performed.
  • Avoid scrubs, exfoliants and acne cleansers unless otherwise instructed. These products will only further irritate the skin, therefore slowing down the healing process.
  • Again, it’s essential to protect your skin from sun exposure. Make sure to use an SPF30+ or greater every day
